Speed up my WordPress website
Like you, I had been searching for an easy way to speed up my wordpress site; I read articles, watched a couple of videos and it did help…a little, but not enough. Google loves fast sites and if your site is fast, it may very well give you an edge over your competitors and get you ranked higher in the search engine. That’s the main reason why I started to do some tests on my own to see if I could speed up my site and I was surprised to find that what I did worked. So I am writing this post to share with you the simple and easy step of how I speed up my wordpress site and I hope this step work for you too!
How to get my wordpress site speed to ms?
Here’s what to do to ‘Speed up your wordpress website’:
- The first thing I did was to check my site speed as a reference point to see what it is before I make any changes. I used pingdom and Google Page Speed Insight.
- Then I installed 2 wordpress plugins (The Real Step that Produced Results):
1.WP Super Cache– This helps to compress your whole website (your Gzip files), reducing the size and make it faster.
2. EWWW Image Optimizer – This compresses the images that you uploaded to wordpress making them smaller, thus your website loads faster.
Ps. you dont have to download these plugins, you can just search for them in the plugins area of wordpress.
- I then rechecked my site speed. And it reduced greatly!
NB: I also realized that the type of wordpress theme you use also affects your site speed. Lightweight wordpress themes actually makes your website speed faster.
Just so you have an idea of how much it reduced:
- Pingdom
Before: When I first checked my site speed, the site speed was 3.32s.
After: After I took the steps above, it was a whopping 672ms.
- Google Page Speed Insight
Before: When I first checked my site speed, the site speed score was 61 for mobile and 77 for desktop.
After: After I took the steps above, it was a whopping 69 for mobile and 89 for desktop.
I really hope this was helpful because I know first hand how frustrating a slow site can be and how difficult it can be to speed it up on your own. Feel free to drop a comment below, ask a question, or just say ‘hi’ to let me know you were here ?
